OREO??? Really??? Oh yeah, and I'll prove it! About a month ago, we did a writing activity, with an Oreo cookie, to help us remember the elements of opinion/persuasive writing. You may even recall a Wednesday Writing activity using this!
O= opinion with a HOOK, R= reason why we should believe (3-4), E= examples that support reasons, and O= opposition acknowledged with opinion restated.
Now it's your turn to show us your OREO! Use the "Would you rather..." question below to write out your opinion. Don't forget to OREO so that we are COMPLETELY convinced!!!
Would you rather only be able to only whisper or only be able to shout?
"Scholastic News" is what Dundee Elementary uses to keep our students in touch with the current events around the world. As you have seen, or may guess, it's a kid-friendly informational magazine that allows our kids a peek at the main events happening all around us.
The tool I bring to you this month is actually a comparable kids magazine known as "Time For Kids." I have a subscription that is housed in my classroom, and may be chosen by your child for their book box materials. Because informational reading is SUCH an important skill, and emphasized much more during the later elementary years, I pass on to you the Time for Kids site that we will use in our Daily Five rotations in many ways. Please look into it...you will find is not only interesting, but also very useful. Lastly, feel free to leave a comment below on what you like best regarding this tool. We can all stand to learn a little from each other!
